Crew Recruitment

Selection and recruitment of officers and crew pose significant challenges to any crewing agency because of the long drawn out process involved. Here at Belocean Crewing we engage all our available resources to these tasks so that our clients may be assured their vessels are in competent hands. This recruitment method involves a rigorous process of screening, interviewing, selection, and briefing, in order to find the right fit for every vessel and candidate. During this process, all our personnel are made fully aware of their professional obligations and responsibilities during the engagement.

Our state-of-the-art crewing database maintains comprehensive professional data on personnel so that vessel managers can benefit from re-employing crew familiar with their vessels, operations, policies and procedures. Before including a candidate in our database or updating their records, the seafarer’s qualifications and experience are verified and cross-referenced with past employers, government agencies and other organizations to ensure authenticity. Professional attitude and conduct are thoroughly assessed during personal interviews. We also help experienced seafarers to re-train and return to active duty after long periods of layoff.

Our crewing solutions revolve around the principle that our services should help a client improve their business performance. Whether you need help with your documentation and policies, with employee relations and performance, or are facing a period of business change, we assist you in achieving the desired objectives in a painless and efficient way. Personnel documentation

Creating and implementing a human resources solution that provides efficient crew management capabilities, tracks staff growth in terms of training and skills, and promotes crew retention can be an overwhelming job. As shipping capacity grows in size or diversifies in capability, so does the volume and nature of crewing requirements. Crew managers are then faced with the complex task of updating, synchronizing and tracking all seafarer data. At the same time, ship management companies are continuously faced with the challenge of minimizing administrative costs while improving their employee output.

For strategic planning, cost control and quick decision making, shipping companies need a centralized HR system with all the necessary recruitment and crew placement tools in place to track crew location and activities. Belocean Crewing provides an efficient and cost-effective solution to this challenge. We use state-of-the-art crewing software and IT solutions that address these issues on a day-to-day basis. Our personnel documentation process and systems are targeted at vessel operators of all sizes, providing them with an effective means to manage new career development. We are in the business of ensuring that everyone involved in HR planning and scheduling can work on the same data simultaneously, reducing administrative burden and providing connectedness for all user groups, whether these are ship owners, crewing agents, seafarers, medical personnel or training centers.

We have a well integrated IT system that integrates a wide range of crew related and manning data on a single platform and make it possible for easy access and transmission. This helps vessel management track crew safety records, make informed decisions when selecting manning, and identify crew training needs. It also resolves new manning requirements based on skills and experience in a relatively short time.

Compensation & contracts

The laws governing wage and labour issues in the maritime industry vary depending on the nature of work, location of the work performed and the kind of vessel. Vessel managers are required to enter into written contracts with each of their seafaring employees. These contracts ideally cover basic employment terms, including nature and length of employment, duties and responsibilities, working conditions, on-board conduct rules, annulment of contract and termination, reporting obligations, medical leave, and rate of compensation.

Qualified seafarers embarking on voyage to foreign shores are required to enter into a written shipping Articles of Agreement with their agency or employer. A seafaring employee’s life and wages are protected under certain laws on most vessels and these legal terms have developed over time to protect the rights of the seafarer. But issues and concerns do arise from time to time regarding seamen compensation, entitlements, overtime and benefits.

Belocean Crewing provides extensive legal and advisory support to all our crew selectees on their engagement contract and ensures that both employee and ship manager are fully aware of their legal and financial obligations, both at sea and on land, and meet these obligations within the prescribed period. We ensure that our seafarers are among the best paid in the industry and receive compensation worthy of their training, experience, and performance. We also assist crew and ship owners in structuring wage payment, compensation, and tax in an efficient and non-discriminatory manner. We have earned the trust and respect of seafarers and ship owners because of our diligent handling of compensation and job contract issues and our ready-to-use solutions for compensation disbursement. Our legal department provides a wide range of contract related services and consultancy to ensure that all parties involved in the engagement agreement are fully covered on their obligations.
